| The friends and admirers of Prof. Sachchidanand have taken an initiative to establish a fund to support education and professional development of needy students of IIT Kanpur. Late Prof. Sachchidanand used to support needy students from his personal funds. Therefore we believe having such a fund in the Institute will be a fitting tribute to his memory, and to keep his ideals alive.
The need for this fund arises from the fact a lot of students at IIT are not able to sustain their education due to lack of funds. Many students come from very economically weak backgrounds, and they need more support than the existing scholarships (like merit-cum-means). This fund will be used to supplement existing scholarships. In addition, this fund would be used to motivate students to go beyond their traditional learning and enhance their horizon based on their own drive and desire. This would support professional development of students of IIT Kanpur. It works exceptionally well in most of the top US universities and we expect it to bring similar results at IIT Kanpur.
We hope that this would bring a positive impact to the learning of students at IIT Kanpur. We would request you to support this initiative through your generous contributions. The money raised will go into a fund that will be managed by IIT Kanpur. First milestone for the fund is US$120K.
